Greetings Yogis!

Happy Spring and yes, hot summer days are just around the corner! Hope you are staying well hydrated and healthy as we welcome the spring when our hot yogis can embrace the heat with smiles.

In the spirit of the spring season when nature blossoms and grows, we can also rejuvenate and re-energize our bodies and minds by bringing back our 30 day challenge which will start June 1 – June 30. For those dedicated yogis completing the challenge successfully, you will receive a 10% discount certificate for the next regular membership package. Please sign up at the front desk at the studio for the June challenge. Also, during the month of May, all yoga clothes will be 10% off to help you look fresh and fashionable.

By popular demand, we will offer the 3-month unlimited membership for $360 (regular rate is $400) in the month of May. Also, please stay tuned for a new auto-debit monthly unlimited membership which will help you save some $ and make it more affordable to come to yoga every day. We will have more details soon at the studio.

We are sad to say goodbye to one of our dear teachers, Katie, who is leaving our area for San Francisco. She promised she will return for all the major holidays and teach those holiday weeks to re-connect with all of you. Her last class until her next return will be on Saturday 5/16 at 11am. Please join us that day to wish her a happy journey and a speedy return! On behalf of all our students, “Thank You, Katie!” for all the love and positive energy you brought to classes. We will miss you!

There will be a special Advanced Flow Class on Sunday, May 17 at 6pm. Please bring your regular gear. You do not need to RSVP for this session. There will be a $17 fee ($10 for students with current membership). Please arrive at 5:45 pm with plenty of liquids and happy smiles.

As we get ready for the second half of 2009, remember, it’s never too late to start again and give another opportunity in every aspect of our lives including new year’s resolutions. Many of us have faced tough challenges this year and we can persevere by keeping our minds and bodies strong and letting your yoga practice help you to keep positive attitudes in weathering trials and tribulations.

Please feel free to email me or call me with any questions or suggestions regarding this letter or things at the studio. Wishing you much happiness and a healthy spine,

Namaste,

Diana

P.S. Enjoy our students’ vacation photos and a nice testimonial from Dave. Way to go Dave!

Katie's Goodbye

When I took my first class at Bikram Yoga Rockville, I never imagined that I would eventually attend 9 weeks of grueling teacher training. In fact, I remember being extremely glad I wasn't a teacher, because I thought it must be really hard to remember all the postures and dialogue and pay attention to everyone in the room--I was having enough trouble with my own practice!

But after a year, the idea of teaching grew on me, and I knew I had to try it. I'm naturally a shy person, so I wasn't sure if I would make a good teacher, but once you step on the podium, everything changes! It turns out that it's much easier to get up in front of people and talk when you're talking about something you care about.

And now that I'm a teacher, I'm leaving for California. (Isn't that where all the yoga teachers go, in the end?) It's because of everyone at Bikram Yoga Rockville that I made it to this point--you encouraged me when I was fresh from training, joked with me, gave me tips, and even listened to what I said in class! I'll never forget the support, spoken or unspoken, that I felt and continue to feel. I will miss all of you.

And of course, I'll be back! My first visit is scheduled for December, and Diana will keep you posted.

Dave's Testimonial

For the past 15 years I've struggled with my blood pressure and weight. My weight ranged from 190 – 250 lb. and blood pressure from 110/75 to 140/95.

This past summer I went to my doctor and weighed in at 245 lb with blood pressure of 140/90. I was told that my BP has to come down or I have to start medication to regulate it.

Dave
I started Bikram Yoga at the Rockville, MD location this past July, along with a lower fat/balanced diet. I've been going to Bikram Yoga about 12 - 15 times a month for the past 3 months.

Just two weeks ago on November 10th, I went back to my doctors and was told I DO NOT have high blood pressure. My reading was 120/76 and my weight was at 230 lb. I attribute most of this to my Bikram Yoga practice.

Yoga Etiquette

If you are sick, please take a few days off and we will see you again when you’ve mended.

Leave no trace. Please deposit trash, recycling, mats, and towels in their proper place. Please do not leave used tissues next to your mat--deposit them in the trash cans instead. Take home all your belongings.

Respect the space of others. Keep your body, sweat, and belongings on or near your mat during class. When setting up your mat, be careful not to set up directly in front of someone else.

Even though each practice is individual, the studio is shared with others. We practice yoga etiquette to show our respect for ourselves, our neighbors, and our teachers.

Come to class with a clean body and feet. Be free of perfume and cologne, as some students are highly sensitive or allergic to strong scents. If necessary, use the showers before class.

No gum, food, or shoes in the yoga room. Turn cell phones and pagers off if you bring them into the room. (Vibrating phones and pagers can still be heard across the room)

Classes are 90 minutes—stay in the room until the end of class. It is important for your health and the energy of the group. If you need to take a break, stand still, sit, or lie down in savasana.

Follow along with the teacher. Try your best in each posture in the Bikram series. Please reserve additional postures or postures from other disciplines until after final savasana.

Most importantly, honor yourself. You are the most important thing in the world. Enjoy yourself!
